Maternity Clothes

Okay, what's the deal with maternity clothes?

I say this as someone who is ending my first trimester on Saturday and is starting to feel snug in her everyday couture. (Ha!) Anyway, it's time to start buying a few things.

In a burst of early morning energy on Sunday, I got online and bought myself a few basic pieces that claim to be 'wearable all 9 months of your pregnancy!' Okay, right. So the site I'm dealing with tells me to order my normal, pre-pregnancy size and that the maternity items should adjust to accomodate my growing belly.

Yeah, but what about the inexplicably growing derriere and décolletage? I have a hard time believing that everything else on my body is going to stay static, in some third dimension state of pre-pregnancy. Because I can already tell you, my belly is already entering the room before me.

So I've laid down some serious change on a basic wardrobe of pregnancy fashion. Everything was procured for under $21.00. And as I wait for the box to arrive and hope and pray that my expanding belly doesn't outgrow my Charter Club jeans before my big box o' mama gear gets here, I'm also still in awe of this thing that's totally taking over my body.

I have this HUGE smile on my face because that little passenger you're carrying around is not only going to take over your whole body before s/he even GETS here, but s/he will take over your ENTIRE HOUSE. Despite their little bitty size, these new dimunitive roomies come with BIG belongings. ;o) Y'all should probably consider adding on to the house in the next couple of months.

As for maternity wear, I bought EVERYTHING at Target (Liz Lange) and Motherhood Maternity. The pieces were stylish AND comfortable but most of all the prices were really very affordable. (Considering it is an entire wardrobe replacement.)

And I know you have heard this at least once (I can't imagine the Lady Lorraine not telling you this immediately upon learning of the little bean's imminent arrival) but I'll say it again: Get a good maternity bra or two. It makes a HUGE difference in your every day comfort level.

I'm kinda envying you right now - I have to be honest - because I absolutely LOVED being pregnant. It was one of the most blessed times of my life.

Hugs to you! (and the little bean)

Hi SCG - I have a friend (she actually comments on my blog very regularly) with Graves and she's been through two pregnancies with it - let me know if you want to talk to her about it or anything like that...

Maternity bras - Pea in the Pod. Just saying.

Remind me to tell you the story about the time Nicole went with me to get my first maternity bra. It's hysterical.

Lorraine - I'll never forget that moment. I'm laughing now just remembering it. And believe me, I had a laugh for us both when I bought my first maternity bra.

Oh, I remember the days well and as Jlow said... this little guy or gal is going to take over not only your house but your life lol... but as far as maternity clothes go, I lost my waistline in about the second month and kept growing out. But from the back, no one would ever have guessed I was pregant.

My best piece of advice... buy something new as you need it. I can remember being so sick of wearing the same items, but because I had bought so much, I had no excuse to buy more.
