People always like to claim that infants smile because of gas.
Well, I can tell you for sure that my kid doesn't smile because of gas. He is currently sitting in a bouncy seat passing a flourish of gas, and he has a very earnest look on his face. As though he's got work to do, and by God, he's going to do it. And there is nothing in the least to be smiling about.

Thanks for the smile - it made me think about my own baby, who is now 7 and who does smile when he passes gas now.
Not to mention the fact, that kid smiled at me the day he was born (I'd just told him Alberto Gonzales was no longer the AG) and I KNEW it wasn't gas.
He's a smiley boy, when he's not got gas to pass.
